MUSIC FOR FLUTE VIOLA & HARP

Fri. Apr 9, 2010 | 7:30 PM - 12:00 AM
Wellspring Theater - EPIC Center - Kalamazoo, MI

Bart Feller, flute
Abhijit Sengupta, viola
Mollie Marcuson, harp

Debussy was spellbound by the Japanese music and art he encountered at the Paris Exposition of 1889, and the music world has not been the same since. Equally influential on classical and jazz composers, the sheer beauty and sensuality of his music often masks its innovation and represents the sophisticated confluence of Eastern and Western traditions. Captivated by the play of light and shadow in Debussy and by avant-garde procedures in Cage, Takemitsu’s graceful compositions complete a program of colorful and deeply atmospheric music.
